Build a Better World!
Summer Reading Program for Young Adults

Pittsburg Public Library is hosting Build a Better World, a Summer Reading Program for young adults in sixth through twelfth grades.

This year, participants have two options to earn prizes.

Participants may enter a drawing for one of two $100 Wal-Mart gift cards by turning in completed reading logs. Reading logs are completed by checking out and reading any combination of five books, magazines, graphic novels, or audio books. The grand prize drawing will be held on Monday, July 31st.

More prizes can be earned by completing a BINGO card. Complete the challenges in each square and earn prizes by getting a BINGO. Challenges involve reading specific types of books, attending programs, volunteering, etc. Prizes include book bags, candy, sunglasses, ear buds, water bottles, and more. Complete every square and win a candy bouquet!

That’s not all…Young adults can also join the youth Build a Better World Program to earn free mini-golf and swim passes. Stop by the Youth Services Department to get started.

Young adults in sixth through twelfth grades are invited to the library on Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in June for fun programs that include art, sports, science, and more!

Movie nights for young adults will be held Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. in July, with popcorn, drinks, and crafts. To wrap up the summer festivities, the End-of-Summer YA Ice Cream Party will be hosted Monday, August 7 at 6:00 p.m. with plenty of ice cream and treats to go around. All library programs are free and no sign up is necessary.

Build a Better World!
Summer Reading Program for Adults

Adults, ages 18 and older, can also Build a Better World, this summer.  No need to sign up, just stop by the Reference Desk to pick up your reading logs.  All it takes is to read six books—chosen from ten categories—and turn in your reading log to earn a book bag.  If you’re feeling especially ambitious, read another six books and you’ll get a free book for your efforts.  Drawing for the grand prize, a Kindle Fire HD, will be held on July 31st. Don’t forget: the more logs you turn in, the greater your chance of winning!

And if reading six books is a bit too much for you to do during the busy summer months, one of the categories is attending one of the seven adult programs being offered in June and July.  Mark your calendar now so you won’t miss any of the excitement!
