Bookmobile or Library Outreach Vehicle? Ours is one and the same.

This year, #LibraryOutreachDay is Wednesday, April 6th. This momentous day is smack-dab in the middle of National Library Week (April 3-9). With this occasion coming up, let me tell you about the great things we have done (and still do!) with our Bookmobile over the past year.

Throughout the year, we always have a home delivery option on Thursdays. Winter tried to get the best of us a few times with slick roads and slushy sidewalks, but we persevered! We love our patrons and do not want them to be without their library materials.

Last summer we had story times at Lincoln Park, and kids of all ages enjoyed the program outdoors. We read stories and had our puppets perform from a stage made from the sliding door side of the Bookmobile. Afterwards, we handed out crafts to take home and folks were welcome to browse and check out books before leaving or playing on the playground equipment. Look for us again this June on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. in the park!

The Bookmobile went to the Farmer’s Market on Wednesday evenings and Saturday Kids Days. We brought activities and had our books available for browsing and check-out. The Bookmobile also came to the City’s Halloween celebration. Library staff dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters and handed out treat bags.

The Bookmobile did scheduled stops at retirement communities so that residents could browse materials, check out items, and apply for library cards. This spring, we’ll be at Highland Meadows every other Monday in April and May, starting April 11th and running through May 23rd.

In the fall and winter, the Bookmobile paraded down Broadway in the 2021 PSU Homecoming and City Christmas Parades. Staff members walking alongside the Bookmobile handed out candy and saw everyone’s smiling faces.

We’ll be out around town several times this month – look for the big teal Bookmobile at the following events:
Saturday, April 16: Farmer’s Market Kids Day
Saturday, April 23: Earth Day Celebration at the Pritchett Pavilion
Friday, April 29: Art Walk in Downtown Pittsburg

You are always welcome to request a Bookmobile delivery if you live within Pittsburg city limits. You can request items by calling the library at 620-231-8110 or filling out our online request form at www.pplonline.org/delivery.

As always, we look forward to bringing the library to you!
