Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Pittsburg Public Library organization, with over 200 members, plays a significant role in supporting the library’s programs and services. Volunteers raise money to purchase library materials and to fund a variety of programs throughout the year, including the library’s summer reading programs. The Friends raise money through memberships and book sales.
The Friends always need new volunteers! Whether you’re available once a week, once a month, or once a year—we can always use more friends!
We invite you to visit the ongoing Friends of the Library Book Sale in the second floor Reading Room—open during regular Library hours. The volunteers restock this room on a weekly basis. From romance to kids books, mysteries, and non-fiction—there is always something new to discover! Shop for a great cause.
You can join the Friends of the Pittsburg Public Library at one of five annual membership levels as shown on the organization’s Membership Application. Just mail your completed application and dues to the Friends at the library’s address, and you will begin receiving an annual newsletter to keep you informed of Friends’ activities.

The PPL Foundation was founded in 1999 and exists to supplement the library’s tax supported funding through annual membership drives and special fundraising events.
The Foundation Board oversees the library endowments held at the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. The library receives up to 5% of the average past three year-end fund balances from the endowed funds.
These funds provide vital collections and services to our community, including:
- A wide variety of digital resources for all ages
- High-speed Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity for library patrons
- A portion of our print collection budget
Please consider donating or leaving a memorial to the PPL Foundation.
Foundation funding has contributed so much to our library and how we serve the community.
The PPL Foundation is chartered in Kansas as a 501(c)3 organization to receive charitable gifts. Contributions should be sent to the Pittsburg Public Library Foundation at the library’s address. Donations may be given anonymously or in memory or honor of someone at your request.
