From the Stacks
By Carol Ann Robb, PPL Reference Librarian

Liturgy tells us it is right to give our thanks and praise and I can’t think of a better time to do that than Thanksgiving.

I’m thankful for our lovely library building—stately on the outside, inviting on the inside. It’s a privilege to work in these surroundings.

I’m thankful for a Library Board that guides and supports the staff on our mission to provide the best library services to our community.

I’m thankful for the leadership our director, Bev Clarkson, provides the staff.

I’m thankful for the Friends of the Library group who financially supports our library programming—we’re the envy of other libraries who don’t have that luxury.

I’m thankful for the Library Foundation whose financial support and generosity has given the staff the opportunity to implement dreams that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

I’m thankful for the library staff who keep this place running and pitch in to help with our many projects.

I’m thankful for our patrons who bolster the staff with their kind words (and sometimes baked goodies!) and book recommendations (I even appreciate it when you tell me a book wasn’t good).

I’m thankful for the folks who share their time and talent by saying yes when I ask them to do programs at the library—as well as the people who attend those programs.

I’m thankful for the Bookmobile that delivers books into the hands of those who can’t make it to the library (because no one should be without books).

I’m thankful for the opportunity to help readers find the book(s) they’re looking for and sometimes introducing them to titles that then become their new favorites. Nothing makes me happier than hearing someone say, “I loved that book you gave me last week.”

I’m thankful I finally discovered Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series this year, and for William Kent Krueger’s “The River We Remember.”

I’m thankful for readers everywhere who are devoted library users—we wouldn’t be here without you.

At some point on Thursday, take stock of the things you are thankful for this year and be glad.
Happy Thanksgiving.
