Exciting news! The Pittsburg Public Library has been selected to receive a remarkable piece of American history!

As part of a special initiative, the Library of Congress gifted an historic card catalog to one library in each of the fifty states. We are deeply honored that the State Library of Kansas chose the Pittsburg Public Library as the Kansas recipient of this meaningful gift.

This historic (and well used) card catalog, which once resided in the Library of Congress’s James Madison Building, has been thoughtfully repurposed into an interactive “LOC-kiosk.” Each drawer highlights a Library of Congress program or service and features a QR code linking to more information.

The Pittsburg Public Library extends its sincere thanks to the Library of Congress and the State Library of Kansas for this extraordinary gift.

We are honored to provide a home for this unique piece of library history and are proud to share it with our community. Please stop by to see it on display in the lobby and explore the many programs and services of the Library of Congress!
