This is Bev Clarkson, Director of the Pittsburg Public Library. You may have noticed the installation of a safety fence and machinery recently on the northwest corner of the library.
Last summer, we hired Earles Engineering to perform a foundation inspection of the library, after noticing some significant cracks in walls on the northwest corner of the original library building. The original library foundation was constructed in 1910, and since that time, the building has settled, resulting in interior walls cracks and windows separating from the stone.
Pitt Foundation Repair, LLC was awarded the contract to repair the foundation. The estimated price for the project is $59,250 and it will take approximately 74 days to complete. Library services should not be interrupted during this project.
The Library Board of Trustees recognized the need to form a capital improvement fund several years ago to help maintain our historic building. Thankfully, we have the funds to repair the library foundation.
The Pittsburg Public Library has been serving our community for well over a century now. Generations of families have formed lasting memories visiting this beautiful, historic Carnegie library. By taking care of this community treasure, it will be around to serve many more generations.
Thank you to the Pittsburg community for your continued support. 📚❤
