Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is offered to Pittsburg Public Library cardholders. If you need materials that PPL doesn’t own, we will try to borrow them from another library. Requests are limited to four per patron. Please fill out the following form for requests.

InterLibrary Loan FAQ

How do I make an Interlibrary Loan request?

Fill out the online form above.

Visit either the Library’s Adult or Youth Services Desk.

Email your request to ILL@PPLonline.org

Call the library at (620) 231-8110

What can I request?

Books, magazine articles, videos, audio books, microfilm and genealogical material, just to name a few. We’ll try to get just about anything, but there are some items libraries will not lend under any circumstances. Reference books, rare books or some titles that are less than one year old are not lendable.

How long will it take?

We can usually get items in 10 days to two weeks but keep in mind that it may take up to 3-4 weeks. Staff cannot guarantee when an item will arrival.

How will I know if my request has been filled?

The library will call or email you when your item has arrived and you will have about three days to stop by and pick it up. We will always let you know if the item you requested is unavailable.

Is there a charge?

Pittsburg Public Library does not charge for this service. Most of the lending libraries also provide free ILL services.

How long may I keep an ILL item?

Interlibrary loan books usually check out for two weeks. Because loan periods are set by the lending library, this can vary. Be sure to find out the due date when you check out an item.

Can ILL items be renewed?

Usually not. If circumstances require you to request an extension, please allow us enough time to contact the lending library (at least three days). If the item can be renewed, we will notify you of the new due date (and keep in mind it may not be an additional two weeks). If it cannot be renewed, we’ll let you know that too! If a renewal request is denied, you are responsible for returning the item on the original due date. Overdue fines are charged at the discretion of the lending library.

May I request material on a specific subject?

No. Subject requests are not possible. Interlibrary loan requests are for specific library items only.

What are the overdue charges on ILL materials?

Overdue fines are charged at the discretion of the lending library.

Where do I return ILL materials?

You may return ILL materials to the Pittsburg Public Library or to either one of our convenient outdoor book drops, unless otherwise noted. Some items need to be brought inside, please check first.

Is there a limit to the number of requests I can make?

Patrons may request up to four interlibrary loan items at any one time.
