March Madness: Book Edition
By the narrowest of margins, “The Boys in the Boat,” upset the defending champion “To Kill a Mockingbird,” to win the 2024 March Madness: Book Edition. “The Boys” overcame its underdog status, facing down formidable opponents each week.
Only a few bracket holders had faith in this feel-good book about the 1936 University of Washington crew team who beat the odds to become Gold Medal champions in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
In fact, only 5 of the 44 brackets submitted had Daniel James Brown’s book taking the Championship. The bracket holder with the most points—94—was Chris Schremmer, closely followed by John Gladson, with 92.
